Gerard Debreu (1921-2004) was a French-American economist and mathematician. With Kenneth Arrow he co-developed the Arrow-Debreu model, rigorously proving the existence of general equilibrium prices using tools from topology. He was awarded the 1983 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for incorporating new analytical methods into economic theory, and spent most of his career at the University of California, Berkeley.
