Construction Spending, published monthly by the U.S. Census Bureau under the formal name Value of Construction Put in Place, estimates the total dollar value of construction work done in the United States in a given month, covering private residential and nonresidential construction as well as public construction. It is reported both as a seasonally adjusted annual rate and as an unadjusted dollar figure, broken out by type of construction, with the release coming roughly two months after the reference month. As a broad measure spanning residential building, commercial construction and public infrastructure, it is read as an indicator of overall construction sector activity rather than of the housing market alone.
