The Toronto Stock Exchange, founded on October 25, 1861 and based in Toronto's financial district, is Canada's principal exchange for senior equities and the third-largest stock exchange in North America by market capitalization, ranking as the tenth largest in the world. As of January 2024 it carried 3,476 listings with a combined market capitalization of 2.92 trillion dollars, and it lists all five of Canada's major commercial banks alongside a concentration of the country's banking and mining companies.
