The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation, based in Taipei 101, was established in 1961 and began operating on February 9, 1962 as Taiwan's primary stock exchange, regulated by the island's Financial Supervisory Commission. As of January 2026 it carried 898 listed companies, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, one of the ten largest public corporations in the world by market capitalization; in May 2026 Taiwan's market became the fifth largest in the world by that measure, and the exchange's benchmark TAIEX index tracks the aggregate performance of its listed stocks.
