The Swedish East India Company was a chartered trading company founded on June 14, 1731 and based at East India House in Gothenburg, Sweden, the last of the major European seafaring nations to establish such a company, nearly a century after its Dutch and English rivals. Over its 82-year existence it completed 131 voyages on 37 different ships to India, China and the Far East, importing tea, spices, silk, porcelain and other luxury goods for re-export across Europe, with tea alone making up about ninety percent of cargo value by 1774; it grew into the largest trading company in Sweden during the eighteenth century before dissolving on December 13, 1813.
