Scope Ratings is a European credit rating agency headquartered in Berlin, part of Scope Group, which was founded in 2002 by Florian Schoeller as an alternative-investment analysis firm before expanding into credit rating in 2012 to challenge the dominance of North American rating agencies after the global financial crisis. Registered with the European Securities and Markets Authority and also registered with Switzerland's FINMA and the UK's Financial Conduct Authority, Scope is the only European credit rating agency accepted by the European Central Bank within the Eurosystem credit assessment framework, and it rates sovereign and public-sector, financial-institution, corporate and structured-finance issuers from offices in Berlin, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan, Oslo, Paris and Poznan.
