The National Stock Exchange of India, based in Mumbai, was incorporated on November 27, 1992 and has grown into one of the world's largest securities exchanges, ranked the fifth largest by total market capitalization after exceeding five trillion dollars in May 2024. As of December 2024 it listed 2,671 companies with a combined market capitalization of roughly 438 lakh crore rupees, about 4.5 trillion dollars, and it is the world's largest derivatives exchange by number of contracts traded and the third largest exchange in cash equities by number of trades as of 2023.
