The Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China, formed in 1949 and headquartered in Beijing, is the State Council department responsible for the national budget, fiscal policy, government expenditure and the publication of macroeconomic data such as growth rates and government debt. Its remit is narrower than many countries' finance ministries: broader macroeconomic management sits with the National Development and Reform Commission and monetary policy with the People's Bank of China, with the three institutions holding equal standing and their heads all serving on the State Council.
