The Ministry of Economics, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, informally known as Bercy for the Paris building it has occupied since 1989, is one of the most senior ministries in the French government, with its minister ranking immediately after the prime minister. The ministry in its modern form was established on July 23, 1958 with Antoine Pinay as its first holder, though the office of Minister of Finance in France traces back to 1518 under the Ancien Regime, and the ministry's name has repeatedly been reconfigured over the decades to combine economics, industry, finance and employment portfolios in different arrangements.
