The Johannesburg Stock Exchange, now formally known as JSE Limited, is South Africa's stock exchange and the largest in Africa by market capitalization. It was founded on November 8, 1887 and is based in Sandton, having relocated there from Johannesburg's central business district in 2000. As of January 2026 it held a market capitalization of 24.22 trillion South African rand, accounting for roughly 60 percent of the total value of Africa's equity markets, more than the combined value of the continent's next nine largest exchanges.
