The Institute for Fiscal Studies, known as the IFS, is an independent economic research institute in London, founded in 1969 to provide, in its own words, top quality economic analysis independent of government, political party or any other vested interest. Based in Bloomsbury near the British Museum and University College London, it specializes in research on UK taxation and public policy and is among Britain's most closely watched sources of independent analysis of the annual budget.
