The ifo Institute, formally the ifo Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich and part of the Leibniz Association, is a Munich-based economic research organization founded in 1949 and counted among Germany's largest economic think tanks. It is best known for its monthly Business Climate Index, closely watched as an indicator of the German economy, and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung has called it Germany's most influential economics research institute.
