The Eurasian Economic Union, known as the EAEU, is an economic union of five post-Soviet states in Eurasia, established by a treaty signed May 29, 2014 that entered into force January 1, 2015. Its founding members were Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, joined by Armenia on January 2, 2015 and Kyrgyzstan on August 6, 2015. The union operates an integrated single market modeled on the European Union, coordinating policy on the free movement of goods and services, transport, industry, agriculture, energy, foreign trade, customs, technical regulation and competition through both supranational and intergovernmental bodies, chief among them the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council of member heads of state, with the Eurasian Economic Commission based in Moscow and the union's court in Minsk.
