The Central Bank of Tunisia was legally established on September 19, 1958 and began operations that November 3, two years after Tunisian independence; the Tunisian dinar it manages was disconnected from the French franc that December. Headquartered in Tunis, with twelve branch banks and a Money Museum, it manages the country's currency and holds foreign reserves that stood at 8.6 billion US dollars.
