The Bank of Thailand is Thailand's central bank, established under the Bank of Thailand Act promulgated on April 28, 1942, with operations beginning that December, succeeding an earlier body known as the Thai National Banking Bureau. Headquartered in the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok, it issues the Thai baht and pursues a stable financial environment intended to support sustainable economic growth and improve the living standards of Thai citizens, carrying out the standard central-banking duties of monetary policy implementation and financial-system oversight.
