B3, formally B3 S.A. - Brasil, Bolsa, Balcao, is Brazil's principal stock exchange, based in Sao Paulo. It traces its origin to the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange, founded on August 23, 1890, which merged with the Brazilian Mercantile and Futures Exchange in 2008 to form BM&FBOVESPA, and then merged again with the central securities depository CETIP on March 30, 2017 to create the present-day B3. As of February 2024 it carried a market capitalization of about 977 billion dollars, ranking twenty-third among the world's largest exchanges, and its benchmark Ibovespa index closed above 130,776 points in June 2021.
