The Australian Securities Exchange is a publicly traded company that operates Australia's primary securities exchange, based in Sydney. It was incorporated on April 1, 1987 under legislation of the Parliament of Australia as an amalgamation of the country's six state stock exchanges, and it later merged with the Sydney Futures Exchange in 2006 to add derivatives trading to its cash-equities and clearing operations. As of June 2026 it held about 3.2 trillion Australian dollars in market capitalization across roughly 2,043 listed companies, ranking among the world's twenty largest listed exchange groups and the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
