The American Enterprise Institute is a conservative think tank headquartered in Washington, D.C., founded in 1938. Describing itself as center-right and aligned with conservatism, it conducts and publishes research on economic policy, foreign and defense policy, health policy, legal and constitutional questions, and social and cultural issues, operating as an independent nonprofit funded by foundations, corporations, and individual donors and governed by a twenty-nine-member board of trustees; it has historically supplied personnel to Republican presidential administrations.
