Paul Samuelson (1915-2009) was an American economist at MIT, the first American to win the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, awarded in 1970. He was the architect of the neoclassical synthesis combining Keynesian macroeconomics with neoclassical microeconomics, and author of the widely used textbook Economics. He made foundational contributions to revealed preference theory, the overlapping generations model, and international trade theory.
