Nancy Folbre is an American economist whose work on the economics of care established the value of unpaid domestic and caregiving labor, systematically excluded from conventional national accounts, as a central object of economic analysis rather than a private matter outside the discipline's scope. She is Professor Emerita of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Director of the Program on Gender and Care Work at the university's Political Economy Research Institute, and was named a MacArthur Fellow in 1998.
