Gary Becker (1930-2014) was an American economist at the University of Chicago, a leading figure of the Chicago School's third generation. He extended economic analysis to areas previously left to sociology, including discrimination, crime, the family and human capital, work honored with the 1992 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences.
