Anna Jacobson Schwartz (1915-2012) was an American economist who spent most of her career at the National Bureau of Economic Research in New York. With Milton Friedman she co-authored A Monetary History of the United States, 1867-1960 (1963), which argued that the Federal Reserve's policy choices bore primary responsibility for the severity of the Great Depression, a conclusion that became one of the most influential accounts of that period in economic history. She served as president of the Western Economic Association International in 1988 and was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2013.
